July 2020 Neighborhood Construction Update

Beginning on July 6th, utility work in the public right of way will impact traffic on SE 122nd Ave south of Foster Rd.

Flaggers will be onsite—at the intersection of SE Foster Rd & 122nd Ave and both north and south of Foster Place & 122nd Ave (tap for map). Please be prepared for some delays through the end of July.

Note: Office coverage continues to be limited during the physical distancing protocols. Your patience is sincerely appreciated.

May/June 2020 Construction Update

Construction on the Upper Garden continues. As we approach summer, the Aerial Tree Walk (right) has taken shape-the ellipse becoming a notable form in the landscape of the woodland slope. The deck and railings are still being worked on but already we can see that visitors will experience new views of the Garden and the green expanse of canopy above and below them.

The steel girders which frame the Arbor at the Tree Walk (left) are also in place, and this gives the Garden another important new space for community gathering and social interaction.

Hundreds of trees, shrubs and other horticultural elements are arriving daily. The greening of the landscape is just starting and will continue through to the beginning of fall.

Equally important is that the public path (below left), giving our neighbors a safe way to go from Claybourne St. down to the 122nd bridge, is becoming a reality. The last section, the stairs connecting with the sidewalk, is still being fabricated.

The far meadow (below right) has been seeded and the new lawn area provides lots of room for our seasonal tent and future programming.
