Volunteering at Leach Garden
Currently over 100 volunteers keep Leach Garden humming. They welcome visitors to the Manor House, provide tours of the garden, run the gift shop, and share stories and information with garden visitors. They groom trails, weed garden beds, and prune branches. They provide event support, coordinate fundraisers, and lend their many talents to help us with a number of special projects. They say a beautiful garden is a work of heart, and our volunteers are here to prove it.
Volunteers at our Upper Garden Info Kiosk and the receptionists who are stationed inside the Manor House (located in the historic lower Garden) welcome visitors, provide maps, and give out information on upcoming events. They answer questions, give directions, and share the history of the Garden.
Gift Shop Clerk
Join our Gift Shop team in providing garden visitors with a unique selection of nature-focused and fair trade or regionally produced items. Gift Shop volunteers welcome visitors to the shop and provide information about the Garden. The Gift Shop generates significant revenue to support the Garden’s operations.
Love working with children? Consider joining our team of education volunteers. These volunteers work with children in a number of fun and rewarding ways. Whether it be leading our weekly Honeybee Hikes, assisting with after school activities or tending to the Children’s Garden, these volunteers are essential to the success of our youth programs.
Spend time outdoors in the Garden educating our visitors about the garden’s history, collection information, plants of interest, and various garden habitats. You don’t need to be a plant expert to lead our garden tours; we will provide all necessary training. Guides are needed for Saturday Weekend Walks and occasionally throughout the week.
Garden volunteers get their hands dirty under the supervision of our gardeners by raking paths, pruning plants, pulling weeds, maintaining trails, and doing other seasonal garden tasks. These hard-working volunteers keep the Garden looking well tended all year round.
Garden Rangers circulate throughout the Garden to answer questions and provide directions. They assist staff with monitoring activity in the Garden, help with set up for events, and assist with closing the Garden. Weekend Rangers are particularly needed.
Want to volunteer but can’t commit to a regular schedule? Ask about volunteering at our special events! Leach Botanical Garden is host to several fun events throughout the year including the Spring Plant Sale, Nature Fair, English Teas, and the Holiday Bazaar. Volunteers are the driving force behind our special events. Without volunteers, these events would not be possible. Ask how you can get involved today!
