Extend your indoor classroom environmental studies experience with a hands on experience at Leach Botanical Garden. Age appropriate curricula involve students through their senses and natural curiosity. Opportunities frequently arise for exploration beyond the text as insects, slugs, butterflies or birds come into our "classroom".
Our Honeybee Hikes series is an opportunity for parents and their pre-school children to hike throughout Leach's beautiful collection! Visit the pond, bee hives, and the painted dinosaur! $2 per child; nonwalkers and parents get in for free! Strollers limit where we can explore so carriers are ideal. No pre-registration required. For more information, call 503-823-1671 or email Sarah Kelsey, Education and Fundraising Intern, at education@leachgarden.org.
Spend two Saturdays in September experiencing the trails at Leach Botanical Garden and creating memories you can take home. Using the beautiful setting of Leach Botanical Garden as a canvas, participants will learn the basics of nature photography composition, including form, shape, and light. The second session will include a review and critique of photos taken the previous week. Instructor Tyler Finkle has an Associate Degree in Photography and has practiced professionally and for fun for over a decade. Tyler loves photography for its ability to reveal what is beautiful and interesting in what might first appear to be mundane or even ugly. Participants should dress for the weather and bring a camera - film and digital formats are both welcome. Arrangements can be made if you don't have a camera. Pre -registration is required. $20/person( includes both sessions) To register contact Sarah at education@leachgarden.org or call 503-823-1671.
